Learn with Fred is an AI-powered learning companion for children, provided by Mutable Software Limited, trading as Learn with Fred (“we”, “us”, “our”). The platform helps children with homework, revision, and exam preparation through guided AI tutoring.

These Terms form a legal agreement between you, the parent or guardian (“you”), and Mutable Software Limited, trading as Learn with Fred. By creating an account, you confirm that:
You are aged 18 or over and are the parent or legal guardian of the child or children using the platform. You have the authority to enter into this agreement on their behalf. All information you provide during registration is accurate.
Children do not enter into this agreement directly. As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for your child’s use of Learn with Fred.
Free trial. Learn with Fred is a subscription service. Your free trial lasts 14 days from the moment you add your first child, and every child on your account has full access during it. We ask for a payment card when you create your account as a check that a genuine adult is setting up the account; nothing is charged during the trial, and we email you three days before your first payment. If you cancel during the trial you are not charged.
Prices. The subscription costs £15 a month for one child, or £25 a month for two or more children on one account, as shown at learnwithfred.co.uk/pricing. Prices include any applicable VAT. Your subscription renews monthly until you cancel. Payments are taken by Stripe from the card on your account.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from your account (“Manage billing”). Your access continues until the end of the period you have paid for; we do not refund part of a month except where the law requires it. You also have the right to cancel within 14 days of subscribing; because the service starts straight away with a free 14-day trial, cancelling within that time means you are not charged at all.
Credits. Your subscription includes a monthly allowance of credits that covers normal use of Fred; it refills each month on your subscription’s renewal day, and unused allowance does not carry over. If you use it up you may buy additional credits at the prices shown in your account. Purchased credits do not expire while your account is open, carry over from month to month, have no cash value and cannot be refunded once bought, except where the law requires. A child can never buy credits, only the parent can, from the parent account.
Price changes and promotions. If we change our prices we will email you at least 30 days before the change applies to you; if you do not agree, you can cancel before it takes effect. Any discount we offer (for example to families who took part in our pilot) applies on the terms we communicate with it.
Failed payments. If a payment cannot be taken we will let you know and retry. If it is still unpaid after our retries, your family’s access may be paused until it is resolved.
To provide the service, we collect and store the following:
Account information: your name, email address, and your child’s first name, username, and year group.
Session data: the messages your child exchanges with the AI tutor, and key activity events such as which learning modes are used, questions answered, and sessions started or completed.
Technical data: device type, browser, and basic usage information to help us maintain the platform.
Voice input data (if enabled by a parent): When a parent enables voice input for their child, spoken messages are transmitted securely to our transcription provider to convert speech to text. The audio recording is never stored by Learn with Fred or our transcription provider, only the resulting text transcript is retained and used in the same way as any typed message. Voice input is disabled by default and can be turned off at any time from the parent dashboard.
Payment and billing information: your Stripe customer reference, subscription status and a record of what you have bought. Card details are handled by Stripe and never stored by us.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising. Our Privacy Policy has the full detail.
We use the data we collect to provide and personalise the tutoring experience for your child, allow you to monitor your child’s progress through the parent dashboard, send you important platform updates and notifications, and improve the platform based on how it is being used.
The Learn with Fred team may review session data, including messages between your child and the AI tutor, to identify bugs, investigate issues, check that our safeguarding controls are working, and improve how Fred teaches.
We want to be transparent about this. The purpose is to fix problems and make the platform better and safer, never marketing. This review is done by us and may use AI tools under commercial agreements that do not use the data for training. We handle all data reviewed in this way with care and in accordance with UK data protection law.
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and your child, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your account and your child’s data, object to how we use your data in certain circumstances, and withdraw consent at any time (though this may affect your ability to use the platform).

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully: ico.org.uk.
We retain your account data and session history for the duration of your account. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it for longer.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Please do not share your account with others. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@learnwithfred.co.uk.
You agree not to use Learn with Fred to upload or share content that is illegal, harmful, or inappropriate for children; attempt to misuse, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the platform; share your account with people outside your family; or resell access to it.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
The tutoring content on Learn with Fred is generated by artificial intelligence. While we work hard to ensure accuracy and age-appropriateness, AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors. Learn with Fred is a learning support tool and is not a replacement for a qualified teacher or tutor. If you notice content that appears incorrect or inappropriate, please report it using the feedback tool in the app.
We work to keep Learn with Fred available at all times, but like any online service it may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control. We may change, add or remove features. If we withdraw the service entirely we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and refund any part of a paid period you cannot use.
Learn with Fred is a learning support tool. We are not responsible for exam results or other academic outcomes, or for losses that neither of us could reasonably have expected when you signed up. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email before the change takes effect. Continued use of the platform after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
