1. About Learn with Fred

Learn with Fred is an AI-powered learning companion for children, provided by Rich Cooper, trading as Learn with Fred (“we”, “us”, “our”). The platform helps children with homework, revision, and exam preparation through guided AI tutoring.

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at meow@learnwithfred.co.uk.

2. Who these Terms apply to

These Terms form a legal agreement between you — the parent or guardian (“you”) — and Rich Cooper, trading as Learn with Fred. By creating an account, you confirm that:

You are aged 18 or over and are the parent or legal guardian of the child or children using the platform. You have the authority to enter into this agreement on their behalf. All information you provide during registration is accurate.

Children do not enter into this agreement directly. As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for your child’s use of Learn with Fred.

3. The pilot programme

Learn with Fred is currently operating as a closed pilot. This means:

Access is by invitation only, using a pilot invite code. Features and pricing may change before public launch. We may contact you for feedback to help improve the platform. These Terms will be updated before the platform opens to the public, and you will be notified of any material changes.

4. What data we collect

To provide the service, we collect and store the following:

Account information: your name, email address, and your child’s first name, username, and year group.

Session data: the messages your child exchanges with the AI tutor, and key activity events such as which learning modes are used, questions answered, and sessions started or completed.

Technical data: device type, browser, and basic usage information to help us maintain the platform.

Voice input data (if enabled by a parent): When a parent enables voice input for their child, spoken messages are transmitted securely to our transcription provider to convert speech to text. The audio recording is never stored by Learn with Fred or our transcription provider — only the resulting text transcript is retained and used in the same way as any typed message. Voice input is disabled by default and can be turned off at any time from the parent dashboard.

We do not collect payment information during the pilot. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

5. How we use your data

We use the data we collect to provide and personalise the tutoring experience for your child, allow you to monitor your child’s progress through the parent dashboard, send you important platform updates and notifications, and improve the platform based on how it is being used.

6. Pilot data review — important notice

As part of the pilot programme, the Learn with Fred team may periodically review session data — including messages between your child and the AI tutor — to identify bugs, investigate issues, and improve the quality of the platform.

We want to be transparent about this. The purpose is solely to fix problems and make the platform better. We will handle all data reviewed in this way with care and in accordance with UK data protection law.

This review process will end or change before Learn with Fred opens to the public, at which point these Terms will be updated.

7. Your rights under UK data protection law

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and your child, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your account and your child’s data, object to how we use your data in certain circumstances, and withdraw consent at any time (though this may affect your ability to use the platform).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at meow@learnwithfred.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully: ico.org.uk.

8. Data retention

We retain your account data and session history for the duration of your account. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it for longer.

9. Keeping your account secure

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Please do not share your account with others. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at meow@learnwithfred.co.uk.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Learn with Fred to upload or share content that is illegal, harmful, or inappropriate for children; attempt to misuse, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the platform; or share your invite code or account with people outside your family.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

11. AI-generated content

The tutoring content on Learn with Fred is generated by artificial intelligence. While we work hard to ensure accuracy and age-appropriateness, AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors. Learn with Fred is a learning support tool and is not a replacement for a qualified teacher or tutor. If you notice content that appears incorrect or inappropriate, please report it using the feedback tool in the app.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email before the change takes effect. Continued use of the platform after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
